KNCF Donation Will Provide Scholarship to Two Daniel Center Students

On May 15, Stormy and members of the Carolina Hurricanes staff visited The Daniel Center for Math and Science. This was our second check presentation of the summer to highlight a few of the non-profit children’s organizations we fund. During the Spring cycle, the Kids ‘N Community Foundation donated $280,447 to 26 non-profit children’s charities in North Carolina.

The mission of The Daniel Center for Math and Science is to help children become more proficient in math, science and technology and to prepare and motivate them to pursue math and science in college. The Daniel Center for Math and Science is an after-school and summer/track out program that seeks to narrow the education gap for at risk and economically disadvantaged kids, ages 5-12.

The Foundation provided a grant this spring for $13,176 that will provide a one-year scholarship for two students.

Schools they partner with:

  • Hunter Elementary
  • Washington Elementary
  • Conn Elementary
  • Barwell Road Elementary
  • Bugg Elementary
  • Moore Square Middle School

Kirby Jones, Executive Director of The Daniel Center, said, “We are excited about the grant the Kids ‘N Community Foundation has provided for us. What it will do is provide two scholarships for one year for children to be in our program, perhaps children whose families may not be able to afford child care tuition."

Doug Warf, Carolina Hurricanes Senior Director of Marketing and Executive Director of the Kids ‘N Community Foundation said, “The Daniel Center represents a new organization the Kids ‘N Community Foundation is working with and we are really excited about it. We see them as a spark plug. A group that is new on the scene, but making a good splash and is doing things the right way.”

At our visit, Stormy and the Hurricanes staff were able to spend time with some of the children that are impacted by The Daniel Center. The students talked about how much they enjoyed the teachers and what they learned each day at the center.

One of the students was so excited about the Hurricanes visiting and said, “I’m so excited because this is my first time seeing Stormy in person!”

Thank you to The Daniel Center for Math and Science staff and a big thank you to ALL of our supporters who donate money to the Kids ‘N Community Foundation throughout the year. This would not be possible without you!
