Partnership Grows Alongside Triangle Family Services

Friday, 05.18.2012 / 11:36 AM

On May 4, 2012, Stormy and members of the Carolina Hurricanes staff visited Triangle Family Services. Over the summer we will be recognizing a few of our Spring 2012 grant recipients to highlight the hard work of the non-profit children’s organizations we support. During the Spring cycle, the Foundation donated $280,447 to 26 non-profit children’s charities in North Carolina.

The Kids ‘N Community Foundation has been a partner of Triangle Family Services since 2002, providing grant monies totaling close to $80,000. Our partnership has grown alongside of TFS as they have continued to develop and increase their services and programs for families.

The mission of Triangle Family Services is, “Building a stronger community by strengthening the family." Founded in 1937, TFS has focused on serving families and individuals by providing them the programs they need to create a more stable environment for each family.  Below are the programs that TFS provides:

Family Safety
  • Time Together Visitation Center
  • DOSE (Domestic Offenders Sentenced to Education) Program

Financial Stability
  • Consumer Credit Counseling Services (CCCS)
  • Bankruptcy Counseling and Education
  • HUD-Approved Housing Counseling
  • Financial Literacy Workshops
  • Emergency Housing Assistance

Mental Health
  • Individual & Family Counseling
  • Children’s Mental Health
  • Psychiatric Consultation
  • Medication Management
  • Parenting Education Classes for Separated or Divorced Parents

The Kids ‘N Community Foundation provided a grant of $15,000 this Spring to fully fund the Time Together: Supervised Visitation program. It is the only service of its kind in the county, as it provides a safe meeting place for children involved in a domestic violence situation and to allows them the opportunity to have healthy contact with the absent parent. These visits are often court-appointed, and each have counselors in sessions and a Raleigh Police Department officer during all visits.

“It’s a court-appointed program and we have about 365 families that we help each year with this program," Alice Lutz, CEO of Triangle Family Services said.  At our visit, she gave us a tour and fully explained the impact that the program has on families in our community.

“It is such a great program and the fact that it was losing funding and would not have been around without us during this cycle was important to the Hurricanes and our board," Doug Warf, Carolina Hurricanes Senior Director of Marketing and Executive Director of the Kids ‘N Community Foundation said. "Having this program in our community is huge”.

At our visit, we spoke to a father who was about to visit with his children. The joy from his face was overflowing as he talked about his excitement to be able to play and spend time with his kids. Without this program, he would not be able to see his own children each week. He praised the program and said that it has turned his life around.

Thank you to Triangle Family Services for all of their hard work in assisting families in need in our community and a big thank you to ALL of our supporters who donate money to the Kids ‘N Community Foundation throughout the year. This would not be possible without you!
