Jay Harrison Selected to Represent Canada

Defenseman to join Staals and Skinner on Team Canada at IIHF World Championship

RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced defenseman Jay Harrison has been selected to represent Canada at the 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championship to be held May 3-19 in Helsinki, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden.

Harrison, 30, completed his 11th full professional season and his fourth season with the Hurricanes in 2012-13, notching three goals and earning seven assists (10 points) in 47 games played. The Oshawa, Ont., native ranked second among Carolina skaters with 51 penalty minutes, third on the team with 83 hits and his 19:54 average ice time per game ranked him third among team blueliners. Harrison (6’4”, 211 lbs.) won a silver medal with Canada at the 2001 IIHF World Junior Championship, and captured gold as a member of Team Canada at the 1998 4 Nations Cup.
