Canes Assign Brett Sutter to Charlotte

Forward has nine penalty minutes in 12 games this season

RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that forward Brett Sutter has cleared waivers and has been assigned to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Sutter, 26, has played 12 games for the Hurricanes this season, averaging 6:56 of ice time per game. Originally drafted by the Calgary Flames in the sixth round (179th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Sutter has appeared in 49 career NHL games with Calgary and Carolina, totaling one goal, four assists (5 points) and 36 penalty minutes. The Viking, Alb., native scored 19 goals and earned 29 assists (48 points) in 70 games while serving as Charlotte’s captain in 2012-13.
