CAROLINA NOTES
Right wing Jeff O’Neill has eight goals in the last 17 games. His four-game goals streak (Jan. 3-8: 5g, 0a) was the longest this season by any Carolina player. O’Neill leads the team with 20 goals and 42 points. He ranked tied for sixth among all NHL players with six game-winning goals through games of Feb. 9. Josef Vasicek has five goals and three assists in the last eight games and rookie winger Jaroslav Svoboda has points in three straight games (Feb. 5-9: 1g, 3a) since his recall from Lowell on Feb. 4.

Right wing Jeff Heerema suffered a broken wrist on Feb. 7 and has missed one game.
Right wing Erik Cole suffered a broken left leg on Jan. 30 and has missed three games.
Defenseman David Tanabe is day-to-day and has missed four games with a shoulder injury.
Center Rod Brind’Amour was placed on injured reserve Jan. 21 and has missed eight games after hand surgery on Jan. 22.
CAROLINA / DALLAS NOTES
Carolina and Dallas meet tonight for the second and final time this season. The Hurricanes downed the stars 1-0 on Dec. 22 at RBC Center in the teams’ first 2002-03 meeting. Carolina won the regular season series against the Stars last season 1-0-1, earning a 3-0 victory in Raleigh on Oct. 7 and playing to a 4-4 tie with the Stars in Dallas on Nov. 21 at the American Airlines Center. Erik Cole led all scorers in last season’s series with four points (1g, 3a) and a plus-4 rating in the two games. Rod Brind’Amour tallied three points (1g, 2a) and a plus-4 rating against Dallas. Goaltender Arturs Irbe was 1-0-0, earning a shutout against his former team on Oct. 7 with 32 saves. The Hurricanes are 23-30-6-0 all-time against the Stars including a 13-14-4-0 record at home and a 10-16-2-0 record at Minnesota/Dallas.
STARS NOTES
Stars center Mike Modano tallied his 600th career NHL assist on Feb. 5 vs. St. Louis, becoming just the second U.S.-born player in NHL history to amass 400 goals and 600 assists (Jeremy Roenick) and the 44th player overall to achieve that feat. He is also just the 61st player in NHL history to collect 600 assists… The Stars moved their unbeaten streak to six games (5-0-1-0) with their 3-1 win over Los Angeles on Feb. 9 and are unbeaten in 18 of their last 19 games (14-1-4-0).
