KEVYN ADAMS TO MENTOR LOCAL FIFTH GRADERS
Southwest Airlines, NHL and NHLPA Present “Score Your Own Goal”
RALEIGH, N.C. – Carolina Hurricanes center Kevyn Adams will take part in the “Score Your Own Goal” program on Thursday at Morrisville Elementary. Adams will team with Southwest Airlines pilot Josh Brehm to teach Jan Gould’s fifth graders that education and hard work are essential to their futures.
The “Score Your Own Goal” program is a joint effort between Southwest Airlines’ Adopt-a-Pilot program, the National Hockey League and the NHL Players’ Association. Adams and Hurricanes’ mascot Stormy will “face off” with students in educational activities and Brehm will reveal the science of flight with a Bernoulli’s Principle demonstration.
This joint Southwest Airlines/NHL/NHLPA visit will highlight the sixth anniversary of the Adopt-a-Pilot program, where pilots mentor more than 15,000 fifth-grade students across the country. Students follow their adopted pilot from the ground and the pilot corresponds regularly from the air, providing information incorporated into the class’ curriculum each day. This is the second year Southwest Airlines and the NHL/NHLPA have joined forces to promote education.
