HURRICANES REASSIGN HAROLD DRUKEN TO LOWELL

Centerman Played Four Games in Most Recent Recall

RALEIGH, N.C. – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the defending Eastern Conference champion Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that the team has reassigned center Harold Druken to Lowell of the American Hockey League. Druken was recalled to Carolina from Lowell along with left wing Ryan Bayda on Feb. 13 and played four games with Carolina in the seven-day span.

Druken (6’ 0’’, 200 lbs.) is in his fourth professional season and has scored 59 points (27g, 32a) in 137 career NHL games with Vancouver, Carolina and Toronto. The Hurricanes acquired Druken from Vancouver earlier this season in the Nov. 1 trade that also brought Jan Hlavac to Carolina. He played in 10 games and earned one assist and two penalty minutes with the Hurricanes before the Maple Leafs claimed him on waivers Dec. 11. He played in five of 16 games for Toronto between Dec. 12 and Jan. 14 and totaled two assists and two penalty minutes while averaging 12:50 time on ice.

The Hurricanes reacquired Druken on waivers on Jan. 17 and immediately assigned him to Lowell. In 11 games with the Lock Monsters, he has recorded four goals, three assists (7 points) and two penalty minutes. He has 10 points (4g, 6a) in 17 AHL games this year with Lowell and St. John’s, Toronto’s AHL affiliate. A second-round pick of the Canucks in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Druken, 23, had two points (1g, 1a) in three games with the Canucks this season prior to the Nov. 1 trade and has totaled five points (1g, 4a) in 22 NHL games this season.

The Hurricanes host Southeast Division rival Tampa Bay at the RBC Center on Friday, Feb. 21 (7 p.m., Fox Sports Net). Tickets for Friday’s game and all Hurricanes games are available via the team’s official website, CarolinaHurricanes.com, the Dodge Box Office at RBC Center or by calling 919-834-4000.
