Carolina acquires a second-round pick in 2004 NHL Entry Draft

RALEIGH, N.C. – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that the team has traded defenseman Glen Wesley to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

“We thank Glen for his years of good service,” said Rutherford. “At this time, this trade makes sense for both Glen and our organization. We wish him good luck in his pursuit to win the Stanley Cup.”

Wesley, 34, played in nine seasons for the Hurricanes organization and ranks third in franchise history in games played with 629. Wesley scored 190 points (47g, 143a) and totaled 434 penalty minutes in his career with the franchise. He has played 1,166 total games in the NHL, tallying 497 points (124g, 373a) and 855 penalty minutes. Wesley notched eight points (1g, 7a) in 40 games with Carolina this season.
