The Hurricanes recalled center Damian Surma from Lowell on Monday. This marks Surma’s first NHL recall and, if he plays in a game, he will become the 39th player to play at least one game (or serve as back up goaltender) this season. Only 10 players from the Hurricanes’ 20-man, opening-game lineup played on Saturday against Los Angeles.

CAROLINA / OTTAWA NOTES
The Hurricanes and the Senators meet for the fourth and final time this season. Ottawa defeated Carolina 4-1 in the two teams’ first meeting this season, on Oct. 23 at Corel Centre. The second meeting, in Raleigh, ended in a 4-4 tie. Ottawa crusied past Carolina, 5-2 on Dec. 7 at Corel Centre, in the team’s last meeting. The Senators were unbeaten against Carolina last season, winning the season series 3-0-1. Ottawa was 1-0-1 at home in 2001-02, playing to a 1-1 tie on Nov. 15 and defeating Carolina 4-3 on April 2. The Senators won both games in Raleigh, defeating the Hurricanes 6-2 on Oct. 9 and 5-1 on Dec. 18. Marian Hossa was the leading scorer against Carolina last season with six points (3g, 3a) in four games. Ron Francis led all Hurricanes scorers with five points (0g, 5a). Carolina leads the all-time regular season series with Ottawa 28-16-6-0, including a 16-5-2-0 mark at home and a 12-11-4-0 record in Ottawa.

The Senators currently have the third best road record in the Eastern Conference (18-12-5-0=41pts) and sixth best road record in the NHL ... The Senators team record of 22 road wins in a season was set during the 1998-99 season and tied during the 2000-01 season… he Senators are the only team in the NHL to have five 20-goal scorers ...
