HURRICANES RECALL WATT FROM LOWELL

Winger Available for Wednesday’s Game

RALEIGH, N.C. – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that the team has recalled left wing Mike Watt from Lowell of the American Hockey League. Watt was reassigned to Lowell on Tuesday and will be available for the Hurricanes’ game tonight at Pittsburgh (7 p.m., Fox SportsNet).

Watt (6’ 2’’, 212 lbs.) was signed as a free agent by Carolina in the 2002 offseason. The Seaforth, Ont., native appeared in his fourth game with the Hurricanes on Monday and has played 156 NHL games with Edmonton, New York Islanders, Nashville and Carolina, scoring 41 points (15g, 26a) and accumulating 45 penalty minutes. Watt, 26, has nine goals and 14 assists (23 points) in 61 games with Lowell this season. He was selected by Edmonton in the second round, 32nd overall, in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.

The Hurricanes begin a two-game road trip on Wednesday at Pittsburgh before traveling to Florida to face the Panthers on Friday. Carolina will conclude the 2002-03 season against the New York Islanders on Sunday at the RBC Center in a 3 p.m. matinee.
