HURRICANES ACQUIRE MURRAY FROM PHILADELPHIA
RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President / General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has acquired center Marty Murray from Philadelphia. In exchange, the Hurricanes sent a sixth-round selection in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft to the Flyers.

"Marty is a real strong utility player that can play in all situations," said Rutherford. "He gives our forwards some depth."

Murray, 28, completed his second season with Philadelphia in 2002-03 posting 11 goals and 15 assists (26 points) in 76 regular-season games. In 176 career NHL regular-season games with Calgary and the Flyers, the Onanole, Manitoba, native has 26 goals, 33 assists (59 points) and 29 penalty minutes. The Calgary Flames selected Murray (5’ 9”, 180 lbs.) in the fourth round, 96th overall, in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft.

The 2003 NHL Entry Draft resumed Sunday at 10 a.m. (ET). Fans can follow the Hurricanes’ draft-day moves at CarolinaHurricanes.com.
