HURRICANES TRIM TRAINING CAMP TO 27 PLAYERS
Team Returns Eight to Lowell, One to Juniors
RALEIGH, N.C. (Sept. 24, 2003) – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that eight players were returned from the Hurricanes’ training camp, to the Lowell Lock Monsters of the American Hockey League. Forwards Pavel Brendl, Brad DeFauw, Jeff Heerema, Tomas Kurka, Damian Surma and Mike Zigomanis, defenseman Tomas Malec and goaltender Rob Zepp will report to Lowell’s training camp which began today. Likewise, defenseman Matej Trojovsky, a 2003 Hurricanes draftee, will return to his junior club, Swift Current of the Western Hockey League.
The Hurricanes’ training camp continues with the team’s first practice at the RBC Center. Carolina will play host to Tampa Bay on Thursday and Atlanta on Friday in its first two 2003 exhibition match ups at the RBC Center. Fans can follow the Hurricanes’ four remaining preseason games on the Hurricanes Radio Network as Chuck Kaiton, radio voice of the Hurricanes, and John Forslund, television voice of the Hurricanes, call the action live.
The Hurricanes open their seventh season in North Carolina on Oct. 9 at Florida, before returning to the RBC Center for their home opener, Saturday, Oct. 11 against defending Stanley Cup champion New Jersey. Individual game tickets will be available beginning Sunday, Sept. 28 at the fourth annual Caniac Carnival at the RBC Center.
