The Carolina Hurricanes play their second of 41 home games at the RBC Center tonight as the Florida Panthers make their first of three visits to Raleigh this season. Carolina opened its 2003-04 home schedule against New Jersey on Saturday, a 2-1 loss to the defending Stanley Cup champion. This marks the second meeting of the season between the Hurricanes and the Panthers, the first coming on Opening Night at Office Depot Center, a 3-1 Panthers victory.

CAROLINA NOTES
Through two games, Carolina defenseman Sean Hill leads the team with two points, both assists. On Oct. 9 at Florida, Hill earned the second assist on Erik Cole’s goal, and, in the home opener against New Jersey on Oct. 11, he notched the lone assist when Rod Brind’Amour scored. Hill led Carolina’s defensive corps last season, playing in all 82 games and registering 29 points (5g, 24a).

Hurricanes netminder Kevin Weekes (a.k.a. “Shady 80”) finished the 2002-03 campaign with a .912 save percentage, tied for 17th (Curtis Joseph) in the league. Weekes went 14-24-9 in 2002-03 and has lost in regulation just 20 times in his last 49 outings (13-20-9-4). Weekes went 2-2-0 in the 2003 preseason, and posted a 2.01 goals-against average. Through two games this season, Weekes has allowed just four goals on 47 shots, good for a .915 save percentage and a 2.05 goals-against average

CAROLINA / PANTHERS NOTES
The Hurricanes and the Panthers meet for their second of six match ups during the 2003-04 regular season. Florida won the teams’ initial meeting on Oct. 9 in Sunrise, 3-1. After tonight, the teams will not meet again until a Feb. 16 match up at the RBC Center. Following two meetings in March, the teams will play each other in the regular-season finale on April 4, at the Office Depot Center.

The Panthers won four of the teams’ five 2002-03 regular-season match ups, including the three meetings in Sunrise. The Hurricanes were led by Erik Cole, Ron Francis, Sean Hill and Jeff O’Neill, who each recorded three points against Florida in the five-game regular-season series.
