GAME NIGHT

The Carolina Hurricanes return to the RBC Center following a four-game, unbeaten road streak (10/18-10/25: 1-0-3-0) to face their first Western Conference opponent of 2003-04, the San Jose Sharks. Carolina has not lost since its home opener, Oct. 11 against New Jersey, going 1-0-4-0 since Oct. 13. During the recent four-game road swing, the Hurricanes scored ties against the New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers, and scored their first win of the season at Boston on Oct. 23. Erik Cole (1g, 2a), Jeff O’Neill (1g, 2a) and Eric Staal (1g, 2a) led the Hurricanes during the road trip with three points each.

CAROLINA NOTES
On Oct. 23 at Boston, Hurricanes netminder Kevin Weekes posted his first shutout of 2003-04, sixth with Carolina and 14th of his NHL career. Through games of Oct. 26, Weekes’ 1.45 goals-against average ranked first in the NHL among goalies with more than 300 minutes played. In six games this season, Weekes has allowed just nine goals on 136 shots, good for a .934 save percentage.

The Hurricanes and the Sharks meet Tuesday for the first and only time during this season. Last season, the teams met once, Feb. 5 at HP Pavilion, a 6-2 Sharks victory. Jaroslav Svoboda (0g, 2a) was the Hurricanes’ lone multiple-point scorer, earning assists on goals by Kevyn Adams and Josef Vasicek. Carolina is 9-12-0-0 against San Jose since the Sharks joined the league in 1991-92, posting a 5-5-0-0 home record and a 4-7-0-0 road record. The teams have never gone to overtime in 21 all-time meetings.
