HURRICANES RECALL ALLAN ROURKE FROM LOWELL
Boughner activated; Ward and Daniels placed on Injured Reserve

RALEIGH, N.C. (Oct. 28, 2003) – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that defenseman Allan Rourke has been recalled from Lowell of the American Hockey League. Defenseman Aaron Ward (infection) and forward Jeff Daniels (groin) have each been placed on Injured Reserve retroactive to Oct. 18. Defenseman Bob Boughner (hand) has been activated from Injured Reserve.
Rourke (6’ 2”, 215 lbs.) leads all Lock Monsters defensemen in scoring this season with five points (3g, 2a) in seven games. Acquired by Carolina on May 29 in exchange for Harold Druken and Jeff Daw, Rourke has yet to make his NHL debut. A native of Mississauga, Ont., he was originally selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the sixth round, 154th overall, of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. Rourke, 23, notched 31 points (12g, 19a) in 65 games with St. John’s of the AHL last season.
The Hurricanes host the San Jose Sharks tonight at the RBC Center, before heading back on the road for a pair of games against the Rangers and the Lightning.
