CAROLINA / NEW YORK NOTES
The Hurricanes and the Rangers meet for the third of four match ups during the 2003-04 season. The teams skated to a 2-2 tie at Madison Square Garden on Oct. 18, and the Rangers downed the Hurricanes in the teams’ second meeting, on Oct. 30, 4-1. Craig Adams, Rod Brind’Amour and Erik Cole lead the Hurricanes with two points each against the Rangers this season. The teams will finish their four-game season series at the RBC Center on Jan. 8.
The Rangers won all four of the teams’ 2002-03 meetings, the first sweep for either team against the other since 1986-87, when the Adams Division-winning Hartford Whalers won a three-game set. The Hurricanes were led by Rod Brind’Amour against the Rangers last season. Brind’Amour tallied one goal and two assists in the four meetings. Carolina posts a 36-43-7-0 all-time record against the Rangers, including a 22-16-3-0 home mark and a 14-27-4-0 record at MSG.
