GAME NIGHT

On Saturday, the Hurricanes play host to the Washington Capitals in the second game of a three game home stand, and the seventh game in a span that sees Carolina play seven of eight at the RBC Center. The Hurricanes look to build on the momentum of Thursday’s 5-1 victory against Atlanta, a win that followed a 7-1 loss in Washington on Wednesday. The Hurricanes have gone unbeaten in their last four home games (11/6-11/13: 3-0-1-0) since falling 2-1 to Toronto on Nov. 2.

Hurricanes winger Erik Cole currently leads the team in points (13) and power-play points (8) despite missing one game (11/9) due to an elbow injury. The 25-year-old also ranks second on the team in goals (5), assists (8) and penalty minutes (30), and is tied for second on the team with a plus-3 plus/minus rating in Carolina’s first 16 games.

CAROLINA / WASHINGTON NOTES
The Hurricanes and the Capitals meet for the second time this week and second of six 2003-04 meetings. The Capitals downed the Hurricanes 7-1 behind Robert Lang’s first career hat trick at MCI Center on Nov. 12 to open the six-game divisional series. Following tonight’s game, the teams will meet four times between Jan. 9 and Feb. 25 to round out the divisional series.

The Capitals won the 2002-03 five-game set between the clubs, 4-1-0-0. Ron Francis (3g, 0a), Josef Vasicek (2g, 1a), Jeff O’Neill (1g, 2a) and Jan Hlavac (1g, 2a) led the Hurricanes in scoring against Washington last season with three points each in the five-game set. The Hurricanes are 28-48-13-1 all-time against the Capitals, including a 15-21-9-1 home mark and a 13-27-4-0 record in Washington.
