Glen Wesley placed on Injured Reserve

	Glen Wesley was placed on injured reserve to make room for Tomas Malec on the roster.

RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 25, 2003) – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that defenseman Tomas Malec was recalled today from Lowell of the American Hockey League. Defenseman Glen Wesley was placed on Injured Reserve retroactive to Nov. 19 with a shoulder contusion.

Malec, 21, has three points (1g, 2a) and 21 penalty minutes in 16 games with Lowell this season. A native of Skalica, Slovakia, Malec made his NHL debut with the Hurricanes on Dec. 15, 2002 at Minnesota and played in 41 games with Carolina during the 2002-03 season, tallying a pair of assists. He was acquired along with Brett Hedican and Kevyn Adams in exchange for Sandis Ozolinsh and Byron Ritchie on Jan. 16, 2002. Malec has 7 points (1g, 6a) in 46 career AHL games with Lowell. A third-round selection of the Panthers in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, he notched 109 points (27g, 82a) in 115 career games with Rimouski of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey Association (QMJHL).

The Hurricanes travel to Long Island today to begin a two-game road swing where they will take on the New York Islanders tomorrow at 7 p.m. (Fox Sports Net, Hurricanes Radio Network) and the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday at 1 p.m. (Fox Sports Net, Hurricanes Radio Network). Carolina returns home following the Flyers games and will take on the Pittsburgh Penguins at the RBC Center on Saturday at 7.
