HURRICANES RESTRUCTURE MARKETING AND SALES DEPARTMENTS
West named Vice President of Corporate Sales and Marketing
RALEIGH, N.C. (Dec. 18, 2003) – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that Matt West has been named the team’s Vice President of Corporate Sales and Marketing. In addition, Michael Hurley has been promoted to Broadcast and Advertising Sales Manager. The restructuring follows the resignation of Vice President of Marketing Communications Ken Lehner on Dec. 9.
West, who is in his fourth season with the Hurricanes, previously served as the Vice President of Corporate Sales. He will retain many of his corporate sales responsibilities as well as overseeing the marketing department. West will also work closely with Marketing Manager Sheila Carter and Fan Development Manager Brian Mehm as organizers for the 2004 NHL Draft, which will be held at the RBC Center.
Prior to joining the Hurricanes, West served as the Director of Sales for the Durham Bulls Baseball Club. He began his full-time experience in sports administration in 1995 following a 15-year career in professional baseball that included stints as a player, coach and manager with the Atlanta Braves organization. West and his wife, Juliana, reside in Durham with their daughters Grace, Mary Margaret and Helen.
Hurley previously served as a Sponsorship Sales Executive for the Hurricanes. His new position makes him the point person for radio and television broadcasting. Hurley is in his second season with the Hurricanes after spending the previous eight seasons with Capitol Broadcasting in Raleigh. During his time with Capitol, Hurley served as the Director of Corporate Sales for the Durham Bulls and as General Manager of Capitol Sports, the managing partner of the original Hurricanes television partnership. A native of Syracuse, NY, Hurley has degrees from Siena College and Syracuse University.
