The Carolina Hurricanes continue their seven-game home stand on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. Carolina won the first two games of the home stand by 2-1 margins. On Saturday, the Hurricanes downed Montreal in overtime when Sean Hill scored 39 seconds into the extra stanza, and on Monday, Bret Hedican beat Buffalo’s Mika Noronen to seal the Hurricanes victory.

CAROLINA NOTES
A few times each season, Hurricanes captain Ron Francis gives fans a history lesson, and something to cheer about by moving up on the NHL’s various all-time lists. On Dec. 29 against Buffalo, Francis scored Carolina’s first goal in a 2-1 Hurricanes win, moving him into a tie with Marcel Dionne for fourth place on the NHL’s all-time points list with 1,771 career points. The goal was Francis’ 542nd of his NHL career, as he passed Stan Mikita and moved into sole possession of 21st on the NHL’s all-time goal-scoring list. Francis, has six goals this season and is now two goals behind Maurice Richard (544) on the NHL’s all-time goals list.

The Hurricanes and the Mighty Ducks meet for the first of two match ups during the 2003-04 season. The teams will meet again on Feb. 4 at Arrowhead Pond. Anaheim took both of the team’s 2002-03 meetings, 2-1 on Feb. 9 in Anaheim and 4-0 on Feb. 23 at the RBC Center. Former Carolina defenseman Sandis Ozolinsh and forward Petr Sykora led the Mighty Ducks with three points each in last season’s series. The Hurricanes hold an 8-6-2-0 all-time mark against Anaheim, including a 5-2-1-0 home record and a 3-4-1-0 road record.
