GAME NIGHT
The Carolina Hurricanes travel to north on Wednesday to face the Atlantic Division’s second-place team, the New Jersey Devils. The Hurricanes and the Devils will both complete back-to-back sets tonight at Continental Airlines Arena. The Hurricanes fell 3-1 to Ottawa on Tuesday at the RBC Center while the Devils took a 3-0 win away from Pittsburgh’s Mellon Arena.

Right wing Jeff O’Neill currently leads the Hurricanes in points (26) and assists (17). O’Neill passed Pat Verbeek (192) and took sole possession of fifth on the franchise’s all-time goal-scoring list with his power-play goal against Ottawa on Jan. 20. On Jan. 11, O’Neill passed Verbeek (403) and took sole possession of third place on the franchise’s all-time points list with an assist on Eric Staal’s goal. Forward Josef Vasicek leads the team in goals (12), power-play goals (5) and ranks second with 22 points... Defenseman Sean Hill has assists in four of the last five games (1/11-1/20: 0g, 5a). Hill’s four-game assists and points streak is the longest by a Hurricanes defenseman this season.

CAROLINA NOTES
On Jan. 20, Carolina acquired right wing Justin Williams from Philadelphia in exchange for defenseman Danny Markov. Williams made his Hurricanes debut that night at the RBC Center against Ottawa and skated 15:40, including time on the power-play and penalty-kill units. Philadelphia drafted the Cobourg, Ont., native in the first round, 28th overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. Williams scored 43 goals and earned 72 assists in 226 games in three-plus seasons with the Flyers. While playing in all 47 of Philadelphia’s games this season prior to the trade, Williams had registered six goals, 20 assists (26 points), 32 penalty minutes and a team-high plus-10 rating ... Hurricanes captain Ron Francis is one goal shy of Maurice Richard (544) on the NHL’s all-time goal-scoring list.

CAROLINA / DEVILS NOTES
The Hurricanes and the Devils meet for their second of four match ups during the 2003-04 regular season. New Jersey won the team’s first contest 2-1 on Oct. 11 at the RBC Center. The teams will meet once more at Continental Airlines Arena on Feb. 14, before wrapping the season series in Raleigh on March 6.

The Devils and Hurricanes split their four-game, 2002-03 regular-season series, each team winning once and losing once at home. The Hurricanes were led by Jeff O’Neill, who recorded four points (2g, 2a) against New Jersey in the four-game series. Carolina posts a 33-40-12-1 all-time mark against the New Jersey franchise, including a 18-17-8-0 home record and a 15-23-4-1 road record.
