GAME NIGHT
The Carolina Hurricanes begin a three-game road trip on Saturday at Detroit’s Joe Louis Arena. The Hurricanes carry a season-best three-game road winning streak (1/16-1/27) into Saturday’s game against the Red Wings. Carolina will travel to Colorado on Sunday in preparation for Tuesday’s contest against the Avalanche at Pepsi Center, and round out its road swing the next night at Arrowhead Pond against the Mighty Ducks.

Recently acquired winger Justin Williams leads the Hurricanes with 30 points (9g, 21a) this season. Williams notched his first Hurricanes goal on Jan. 23 against the NY Islanders, and posted two goals in Carolina’s 5-3 loss to Washington on Thursday. Right wing Jeff O’Neill has 27 points (10g, 17a) while playing in all 52 of Carolina’s games. Forward Josef Vasicek leads the team in goals (14), power-play goals (5) and ranks third with 26 points.

CAROLINA / RED WINGS NOTES
The Hurricanes and the Red Wings finish January how they started the year’s first month, facing off this time at Joe Louis Arena in the second game of their two game season series. Detroit took the teams’ first meeting at the RBC Center on Jan. 2, 4-1. Last season, the Hurricanes took the teams’ lone meeting, 6-4 on Nov. 29 at the RBC Center. Jan Hlavac (3g, 0a) had a hat trick in that contest, scoring three power-play goals, and centerman Rod Brind’Amour (0g, 3a) notched a three-assist night. The Hurricanes hold a 24-28-7-1 all-time mark against the Red Wings, including a 17-12-1-0 home record and a 7-16-6-1 road record.
