HURRICANES RECALL BAYDA, ZIGOMANIS FROM LOWELL
Forwards to Join Hurricanes for Wednesday’s GameRALEIGH, N.C. (March 9, 2004) – Jim Rutherford, President / General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled winger Ryan Bayda and center Mike Zigomanis from Lowell of the American Hockey League. The forwards will join the Hurricanes for Wednesday’s 7 p.m. game against the Southeast Division-leading Tampa Bay Lightning at the RBC Center.
Zigomanis, 23, leads the Lock Monsters in points (52) and assists (35) while playing in 58 games this season. This marks the North York, Ont., native’s third recall to Carolina this season. Zigomanis (6’ 1”, 200 lbs.) played in 19 games with the Hurricanes last year, and has made three appearances this year, totaling two goals and one assist (3 points) in 22 career NHL games. He was named the Most Valuable Player at the 2004 AHL All-Star game, scoring a goal and adding two assists in the Canadian All-Stars’ 9-4 win against the PlanetUSA squad in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Feb. 9. The Hurricanes drafted Zigomanis in the second round, 46th overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
Bayda, 23, is being recalled to Carolina for the second time this season. In 31 games with Carolina from Oct. 23 to Jan. 11 this season, the Saskatoon, Sask., native totaled two goals and one assist (3 points). In 29 AHL games this year, Bayda (5’ 11”, 185 lbs.) has recorded seven goals and 14 assists (28 points). Despite playing in 25 NHL games last season, Bayda is listed as a rookie this year and has totaled six goals and 11 assists (17 points) in 56 career NHL games. The Hurricanes selected Bayda in the third round, 80th overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
