Carolina hosts Atlanta at the RBC Center in Oct. 14 season opener

RALEIGH, N.C. (July 14, 2004) – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, today released the team’s schedule for the 2004-05 National Hockey League regular season. The Hurricanes will play 22 of their 41 home games on weekends, including 15 games on Friday and Saturday nights, three more weekend night games than in 2003-04. Carolina’s weekend home schedule features two match-ups against defending champion Tampa Bay as well as games against the New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins Toronto Maple Leafs and Washington Capitals, among others.

Breaking down the home schedule by day, the Hurricanes will play four games on Monday nights, three games on Tuesday nights, six games on Wednesday nights, six games on Thursday nights, 10 games on Friday nights, five games on Saturday nights and seven games on Sundays. All regular-season games at the RBC Center will begin at 7 p.m., except one Sunday game that will begin at 1:30 p.m., four Sunday games at 5 p.m., a New Year’s Eve match up against the New York Islanders at 8 p.m. and the season finale on Sunday, April 10 at 2 p.m.

Carolina will play each of its Southeast Division foes – Atlanta, Florida, Tampa Bay and Washington – six times, including three home contests against each divisional opponent. Atlanta will visit Raleigh first on Oct. 14 for the season opener, before defending division champion Tampa Bay makes its first 2003-04 visit on Nov. 27, two days after Thanksgiving. The Florida Panthers play at the RBC Center on Dec. 26 while Washington begins its three-game Raleigh schedule on Jan. 17.

NHL All-Star Weekend will be Feb.12-13, with the All-Star Game taking place Feb. 13 at Philips Arena in Atlanta.

The Hurricanes will open the 2004 preseason on Sept. 25 against Tampa Bay at Germain Arena in Estero, Fla., home of Carolina’s ECHL affiliate the Florida Everblades. Following back-to-back-to-back road exhibition games Sept. 27-29 at Florida, Tampa Bay and Atlanta, the Hurricanes will open their three-game home exhibition schedule on Oct. 1 against Florida. The team will celebrate the start of the 2004-05 season with its annual Caniac Carnival on Oct. 3, prior to the 1:30 p.m. exhibition game against Atlanta. Carolina will close the preseason with a home-and-home set against Washington, Oct. 8 at the RBC Center and Oct. 9 at the MCI Center.
