RALEIGH, N.C. (July 28, 2004) – Jim Rutherford, President / General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with center Kevyn Adams on a one-year contract. As per club policy, no other terms were announced.

“Kevyn has emerged as one of the veteran leaders for our team,” said Rutherford. “His work ethic on and off the ice sets a tremendous example for our players.”

Adams, 29, completed his seventh NHL season and third with the Hurricanes in 2003-04. He was chosen by his teammates as Carolina’s nominee for the King Clancy Trophy and was selected by the North Carolina Chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association as the recipient of its “Good Guy Award” for the second consecutive season. Adams tallied a shorthanded goal with less than a second remaining in overtime at Atlanta on March 5 to break the franchise record for shorthanded goals in a season with five.

Born in Washington, D.C., Adams was selected out of Miami (Ohio) University in the 1st round (25th overall) of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins. In 363 career NHL games with Toronto, Columbus, Florida and Carolina, he has totaled 41 goals and 58 assists (91 points) and 243 penalty minutes. He has tallied 21 goals and 24 assists (45 points) and 114 penalty minutes in 183 games with the Hurricanes.
