COACHES, MASCOT TO VISIT DUKE CHILDREN\u2019S TODAY

RALEIGH, N.C. (April 26, 2005)

Stormy visit's Duke Children's Hospital

Hurricanes assistant coaches Jeff Daniels and Kevin McCarthy will join team mascot Stormy in distributing green “Reach the Day wristbands to children and families impacted by childhood cancer at Duke Children’s Hospital today at 1 p.m.

The visit is part of a League-wide 2005 Hockey Fights Cancer initiative aligned with CureSearch National Childhood Cancer Foundation and Childhood Cancer Foundation Canada, partner organizations devoted to treating and curing pediatric cancer. “Reach the Day wristbands were created by CureSearch to provide a symbol of hope to children and their families and to share the dream that a cure for childhood cancer is within reach.

“This is a great opportunity for us to try to brighten the day of these patients, and support a worthwhile cause, said Hurricanes Community Relations Manager Emma Bennett. “We are grateful to Duke Children’s Hospital for opening their doors to us to participate in this program.

The Carolina Hurricanes and Hockey Fights Cancer invite the public to support the “Reach the Day initiative by purchasing wristbands, which cost $1 each and are available in packs of 10 on www.NHL.com and www.CureSearch.org.

Hockey Fights Cancer is a joint initiative of the National Hockey League and NHL Players’ Association dedicated to raising awareness and funds for cancer research and childhood cancer hospitals. Since its inception in 1998, the program has raised over $6.8 million. For more information, please log on to www.HockeyFightsCancer.com.
