RALEIGH, N.C. (July 18, 2005)

Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that the Hurricanes have re-signed Director of Amateur Scouting Sheldon Ferguson to a multi-year contract. Amateur Scouts Martin Madden, Tony MacDonald and Bert Marshall also signed multi-year contracts with Carolina.

“Sheldon Ferguson has been an important part of this franchise for the last 10 years,” said Rutherford. “His and his staff’s experience and hard work during the past year will be valuable as we look toward an upcoming Entry Draft and building the future of the Carolina Hurricanes.”

Ferguson, 52, is entering his 11th season with the Hurricanes organization. He oversees the team’s amateur scouting department and is responsible for the team’s selections at the annual NHL Entry Draft. Prior to joining the Hurricanes, Ferguson served as Director of Scouting for the Canadian National Junior Team for four seasons. The Canadian National Team won three consecutive gold medals (1993-95) during his tenure. Overall, Ferguson has been involved in scouting and coaching for more than 27 seasons.
