HURRICANES SIGN OFFENSIVE PROSPECTS AUCOIN, GOVE
RALEIGH, NC – Jason Karmanos, Vice President and Assistant General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that the Hurricanes have signed with forwards Keith Aucoin and David Gove to one-year contracts. As per club policy, further terms of the deal were not released.

“We are pretty familiar with these two players from watching Providence play Lowell so many times last season,” said Karmanos. “They are smart, young offensive players who will really help Lowell and could even possibly contribute on the NHL level eventually.”

Aucoin, 26, was third for Providence of the American Hockey League (AHL) in scoring with 66 points in 72 games (21 goals, 45 assists), and led the Bruins in assists with 45. The Waltham, Mass., native was Providence’s second-leading scorer during the Calder Cup Playoffs with 18 points (4g, 14a) in 17 games as the Bruins advanced to the AHL’s Eastern Conference Finals before falling to eventual Calder Cup Champion Philadelphia in six games. A graduate of Norwich University, where he was a two-time ECAC-3 Player of the Year, Aucoin played for Lowell during the 2001-02 AHL season, tallying 16 points (6g, 10a) in 30 games. Aucoin (5’9’’, 185 lbs.) has tallied 204 points (70g, 134a) and 192 penalty minutes in 260 career AHL games with Lowell, Cincinnati and Providence.

Gove, 27, tallied 31 points (13g, 18a) and 30 penalty minutes for Providence in 2004-05. The Centerville, Mass., native had six points (3g, 3a) in 17 playoff games for the Bruins. Gove played his college hockey at Western Michigan, where he scored 143 points (57g, 86a) in 144 games, including 59 points (22g, 37a) in 39 games during his senior season. Gove has played four seasons in the AHL for Grand Rapids, San Antonio, Utah and Providence, totaling 108 points (44g, 64a) in 234 games.
