\u2018CANES AGREE TO TERMS WITH DWYER, FORBES, ZIGOMANIS
RALEIGH, NC – Jason Karmanos, Vice President and Assistant General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that the Hurricanes have agreed to terms on two-way contracts with forwards Gordie Dwyer, Colin Forbes and Mike Zigomanis. Each of the players will earn $450,000 at the NHL level or $75,000 at the American Hockey League level.

“Gordie, Colin and Mike add an important depth element to our organization,” said Karmanos. “All three have significant professional playing experience and will challenge for a spot on the Hurricanes roster in training camp.”

Dwyer, 27, played in 56 regular-season games with Carolina’s AHL affiliate Lowell Lock Monsters in 2004-05, registering two goals, seven assists (9 points) and a team-high 183 penalty minutes. In the Lock Monsters’ 11 playoff contests, Dwyer (6’3”, 215 lbs.) scored one goal and led the team with 54 penalty minutes. Prior to joining the Hurricanes organization during the 2004 offseason, the Dalhousie, N.B., native split 2003-04 between Montreal of the NHL and Hamilton of the AHL. St. Louis initially drafted Dwyer in the second round, 67th overall, in 1996, but he re-entered the draft in 1998 after failing to come to terms with St. Louis and was selected by Montreal in the fifth round, 152nd overall. Since turning professional prior to the 1998-99 season, Dwyer has played in 108 NHL games, recording 394 penalty minutes and five assists. In 215 AHL and International Hockey League games, he has recorded 14 goals, 23 assists (37 points) and 889 penalty minutes.

Forbes, 29, ranked third among Lowell skaters in 2004-05, totaling 64 points (27g, 37a) and 80 penalty minutes in 76 regular-season contests. In the Lock Monsters’ 11 postseason games, he notched three goals and added an assist (4 points) while accumulating 20 penalty minutes. Prior to joining the Hurricanes organization during the 2004 offseason, Forbes played in 69 games with Portland of the AHL in 2003-04, leading the team with 32 assists and 48 points, and also played in two NHL games with Washington. Since being drafted by Philadelphia in the seventh round, 166th overall, in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, Forbes (6’3”, 205 lbs.) has played in 302 NHL games with Philadelphia, Tampa Bay, the New York Rangers, Ottawa and Washington, notching 33 goals and 28 assists (61 points) while accumulating 211 penalty minutes. The New Westminster, B.C., native enjoyed his best NHL season in 1998-99 when he scored 12 goals and added eight assists (20 points) with Philadelphia and Tampa Bay. In 321 career AHL regular-season games, Forbes has scored 98 goals, earned 144 assists (242 points) and totaled 383 penalty minutes.

Zigomanis, 24, finished the 2004-05 season ranked fourth among Lock Monsters skaters with 60 points (29g, 31a) and led the team with 11 points (4g, 7a) in Lowell’s 11 playoff games. In 2003-04, Zigomanis (6’ 1”, 200 lbs.) played in 17 NHL games with Carolina and 61 games with Lowell, where he recorded team highs with 35 assists and 52 points. He was named the Most Valuable Player of the AHL All-Star Game on Feb. 9, 2004, after recording a goal and two assists in the contest. The Hurricanes drafted the North York, Ont., native in the second round, 46th overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. In 36 NHL games with Carolina, Zigomanis has recorded two goals and four assists (6 points). In four seasons with Lowell, he has set Lock Monsters franchise records in games played (254) goals (77), assists (114) and points (194).
