BRIND\u2019AMOUR TO SERVE AS TEAM CAPTAIN FOR HURRICANES\u2019 2005-06 CAMPAIGN
RALEIGH, NC – Peter Laviolette, Head Coach of the Carolina Hurricanes, today named center Rod Brind’Amour team captain for the 2005-06 season at a news conference at the RBC Center. Laviolette also announced that forwards Kevyn Adams and Cory Stillman, and veteran defenseman Glen Wesley, will serve as Alternate Captains.

“Rod is a leader in every sense of the word,” said Laviolette. “His dedication to the game and this team is evident in everything he does, on and off the ice. He makes the people and the players around him better, and those are the qualities we look for in a captain.”

Brind’Amour becomes the fourth captain of the Hurricanes since the team relocated to North Carolina in 1997. Former Carolina players Kevin Dineen, Keith Primeau and Ron Francis also wore the captain’s “C” during their time with the Hurricanes.

Carolina acquired Brind’Amour on Jan. 23, 2000, along with goaltender Jean-Marc Pelletier and a fourth-round pick in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for Primeau and a fifth-round pick in 2000. In his four seasons with the Hurricanes, Brind’Amour has played in 241 games, scored 61 goals, earned 101 assists (162 points) and accumulated 150 penalty minutes. During Carolina’s run to the 2002 Stanley Cup finals, Brind’Amour had four goals and eight assists and led the famed “BBC” line of himself, Bates Battaglia and Erik Cole.

The Hurricanes will have their first official workout of their 2005 Training Camp on Sept. 13 at the RBC Center. For a training camp schedule, Carolina’s regular-season schedule or for ticket information, please visit CarolinaHurricanes.com.
