RALEIGH, NC –
Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that the team will host a special “Katrina Relief Weekend” from Sept. 16-18 in Raleigh. The weekend will feature several events designed to help raise much-needed funds for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and along the Gulf Coast.

  • On Friday, Sept. 16, the Hurricanes host the Washington Capitals in their preseason opener at the RBC Center at 7 p.m. One hundred percent of all individual ticket sales and all group sales for the game will go directly to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Please note that although these tickets are not tax deductable, all proceeds will be donated to help the Americans who need it most right now.

  • On Saturday, Sept. 17, the Hurricanes will play a team scrimmage at the RecZone on Hodges Street in Raleigh at 3:30 p.m. Stormy and the Blue Cross/Blue Shield of North Carolina Storm Squad will be on hand to accept voluntary donations for the American Red Cross. In addition, fans will be able to purchase the Carolina Hurricanes 2005 Training Camp Guide at the scrimmage and all Hurricanes preseason practices for $5, with all of the proceeds benefiting the American Red Cross.

  • On Sunday, Sept. 18, the Hurricanes will host the Caniac Carnival from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the RBC Center, concluding with the team’s exhibition match-up against the Florida Panthers at 3 p.m. Parking for the event and tickets to the game are free to all fans, as supplies last.
