NASTIUK STOPS 43 SHOTS IN CAROLINA ROOKIES\' 5-2 WIN
Hurricanes down Montreal in final game of NHL rookie tournament

OTTAWA, Ont. – The Carolina Hurricanes rookie tournament team finished its four-game schedule at the 2005 Ottawa Senators NHL Rookie Tournament with a 5-2 win against Montreal on Friday at the Ottawa Civic Centre. Goaltender Kevin Nastiuk, the Hurricanes’ fourth-round (126th overall) pick in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, stopped 43 of 45 Canadiens’ shots to lead Carolina to victory and a 3-1 record in the round-robin tournament.

Andrew Ladd, the Hurricanes’ first-round (4th overall) pick in 2004, put Carolina on the board 10:46 into the game when he beat Montreal netminder Loic Lacasse. Ladd’s linemates Kevin Estrada and Vince Bellissimo set up the goal, Ladd’s fourth of the tournament. Ladd (4g, 3a) and Bellissimo (2g, 5a) finished the tournament with seven points each to lead Carolina in scoring. Free-agent tryout Darryl Boyce scored two goals in Friday’s game and finished the tournament with three goals, tying him for second on the team with free-agent tryout Mike Stathopoulos.

While the Hurricanes rookie squad has finished its four-game schedule, the Ottawa Senators NHL Rookie Tournament does not conclude until Saturday. For final statistics from the tournament, please visit www.OttawaSenators.com following Saturday’s games.
