HURRICANES ADD CUMMINS TO TRAINING CAMP ROSTER
Veteran winger will attend camp as a free-agent tryout

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Sept. 10, 2005

RALEIGH, NC –
Veteran right wing Jim Cummins has accepted an invitation to attend the Hurricanes’ 2005 Training Camp. With the addition, the Hurricanes’ training camp roster stands at 40 players, including five goaltenders, 12 defensemen and 23 forwards. A revised training camp roster is available here. The Hurricanes officially report to training camp on Sept. 12, for player physicals. The team takes to the ice for its first practice on Sept. 13, at the RBC Center at 8:30 a.m. All Hurricanes practices are open to the media and the public.

Physicals will take place on Monday, Sept. 12 beginning with veteran players at 7 a.m. at Carolina Family Practice and Sports Medicine in Cary. Following their medical physicals, the players will proceed to the RBC Center for testing. Media may observe the on-ice testing from the seats in the lower bowl of the RBC Center. Director of Media Relations Mike Sundheim or Manager of Media Relations Kyle Hanlin will be on hand to facilitate requests for player interviews after 10 a.m.

The Hurricanes will practice in two groups for the first week of training camp, with the exception of Saturday, Sept. 17, when there will be a team scrimmage at the RecZone at 3:30 p.m. The two practice groups will alternate on-ice practice times, with one group starting at 8:30 a.m. and the other starting at 11 a.m. most days during the opening week of training camp. Media availability for players will take place after each group completes its on- and off-ice workouts, approximately three hours after the group takes the ice. So, for example, players in Group A on Tuesday, Sept. 13, take the ice from 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. and will be available to the media at 11:30 a.m. Players in Group B on Tuesday will be on the ice from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and will be available to the media at about 2 p.m. The full practice schedule for training camp is available here.

Carolina has three full days of practice prior to its preseason opener on Sept. 16, against Washington at the RBC Center. All proceeds from ticket sales to that game will go directly to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to assist the victims of Hurricanes Katrina. On Sunday, Sept. 18, the Hurricanes will host the Caniac Carnival from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the RBC Center, concluding with the team’s exhibition match-up against the Florida Panthers at 3 p.m. Parking for the event and tickets to the game are free to all fans, as supplies last. The American Red Cross and the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, local affiliate of America’s Second Harvest, will set up at the Carnival and will be accepting donations.
