HURRICANES RAISE MORE THAN $63,000 FOR KATRINA RELIEF
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Sept. 18, 2005
RALEIGH, NC – The Carolina Hurricanes today presented a check for $63,291.41 to the American Red Cross for its Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. The Hurricanes donated all proceeds from group and individual tickets sales to their Sept. 16 preseason game against Washington ($62,321.41), as well as from all sales to date of the 2005 Training Camp Guide ($970). Jill Cobb, a member of the Triangle Red Cross Board of Directors, accepted the check from Hurricanes Captain Rod Brind’Amour and Vice President of Business Operations Matt West during the first intermission of Sunday’s game against the Florida Panthers.
Sunday’s check presentation wrapped up “Katrina Relief Weekend,” the first weekend of Carolina’s 2005 training camp. Along with Friday’s game, the Hurricanes held a team scrimmage on Saturday at RecZone in Raleigh where fans were able to purchase the 2005 Training Camp Guide for $5. The weekend concluded Sunday with the Caniac Carnival, the Hurricanes’ season kickoff event, and the team’s second exhibition game. Parking and admission for the Carnival and Sunday’s game against Florida were free for the general public, and the Red Cross was on hand to accept donations.
