HURRICANES AGREE TO TERMS WITH KEVIN ESTRADA
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Oct. 4, 2005
RALEIGH, NC – Jason Karmanos, Vice President and Assistant General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with left wing Kevin Estrada on a two-way contract. Estrada receives a $15,000 signing bonus and, at the NHL level, the two-year deal will pay him $450,000 per year. At the American Hockey League level, Estrada will make $35,000 in the first year and $40,000 the second year.
“Kevin played very well in rookie camp in Ottawa at the beginning of September,” said Karmanos. “He impressed us in training camp here in Carolina with his speed and work ethic, and has continued to play well in Lowell.”
Estrada, 23, was selected by the Hurricanes in the third round, 91st overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. In four years at Michigan State, the Surrey, B.C., native played in 135 games and scored 20 goals, earned 22 assists and accumulated 96 penalty minutes. Estrada (5’11”, 193 lbs.) played on a line with fellow Hurricanes prospects Vince Bellissimo and Andrew Ladd at the 2005 Ottawa Senators NHL Rookie Tournament in early September, and had a goal and three assists (4 points) in four games.
The Hurricanes open the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at Tampa Bay before returning to Raleigh for their home opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday, Oct. 7. Individual game tickets for all Hurricanes games in October and November are available at the RBC Center box office, all TicketMaster outlets, at CarolinaHurricanes.com and by calling 919-834-4000.
