HURRICANES REASSIGN KEVIN NASTIUK TO LOWELL
Martin Gerber expected to dress Saturday

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
– Oct. 13, 2005

RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that the Hurricanes have reassigned goaltender Kevin Nastiuk (NAZ-tee-uhk) to Lowell of the American Hockey League. Nastiuk was recalled to Carolina on Oct. 6 and has served as backup for the Hurricanes’ last three games. Nastiuk was recalled after opening night starter Martin Gerber suffered a hip injury on Oct. 5 at Tampa Bay, but Gerber is expected to dress for Carolina’s game at New Jersey on Saturday.

The Hurricanes selected Nastiuk, 20, with their fourth pick, 126th overall, in the fourth round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. The Edmonton, Alb., native recorded a 63-37-9 record in his last two seasons with Medicine Hat of the Western Hockey League, helping the Tigers to two consecutive Central Division titles. In that span Nastiuk posted a 2.55 goals-against average while playing in 110 regular-season games.

Carolina next faces the New Jersey Devils at Continental Airlines Arena on Saturday, Oct. 15, in the first game of a three-game road swing. The Hurricanes return to the RBC Center on Monday, Oct. 24, to face the Ottawa Senators in the first game of a three-game home stand that features games against Boston (Wed., 10/26) and Philadelphia (Fri., 10/28). Individual game tickets for all Hurricanes games in October and November are available at the RBC Center box office, all TicketMaster outlets, at CarolinaHurricanes.com and by calling 919-834-4000.
