Against the Penguins
Saturday marks the second of four match ups between the Hurricanes and Penguins this season. The teams met on Oct. 7, the Hurricanes’ first home game of 2005-06, and went to a shootout with Carolina taking the win 4-3. Following Saturday’s game, the teams will next meet at the RBC Center on Feb. 10 and finish the season series in Pittsburgh on March 4. Carolina and Pittsburgh met four times during the 2003-04 season with the Hurricanes earning points in every game and finishing with a 2-0-1-1 record against the Penguins (Pittsburgh: 1-1-1-1). Defenseman Dick Tarnstrom led all Penguins skaters with four points (1g. 3a) in the four 2003-04 meetings, while Radim Vrbata paced the Canes with three goals and an assist (4 points).

Milestone Watch

  • Center Kevyn Adams will earn his 100th NHL point with his next goal or assist.
  • Center Josef Vasicek played in his 300th NHL/Hurricanes game in Carolina’s 4-0 win at Washington on Oct. 22.
  • Defenseman Glen Wesley passed Kevin Dineen (708) for second place on the franchise games-played list on Oct. 20 at Toronto
  • Hurricanes coach Peter Laviolette earned his 100th NHL coaching win with Carolina’s 6-1 win at New Jersey on Oct. 15.
