Panthers: 6-6-2 (14 pts.)

Saturday’s Game
The Southeast Division-leading Carolina Hurricanes host division rival Florida on Saturday at the RBC Center (7 p.m., Hurricanes Radio Network). Carolina is undefeated in six games this season at the RBC Center – a new franchise record for longest home winning streak – and carries a six-game overall winning streak into Saturday’s game against the Panthers. The Hurricanes have not lost in regulation since a 3-2 loss at the New York Islanders on Oct. 8.

With 19 points in their first 12 regular-season games, the Hurricanes are off to their best start in franchise history, eclipsing the previous first-12-games record of 14 points in 1991-92, 1996-97. Carolina has now earned at least a point in each of its last nine games, dating back to a 7-2 win against Washington at the RBC Center on Oct. 12.

Carolina Notes
On Nov. 1, the NHL named center Eric Staal Offensive Player of the Month for October. Staal, who also was named the NHL’s Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 30, ranked first in the NHL in scoring through games of Nov. 3 with 25 points (11g, 14a). In the Hurricanes’ four games during the week of Oct. 24-Oct. 30, Staal scored four goals and had six assists (10 points), including his first NHL hat trick on Oct. 28 against Philadelphia, and his first NHL four-assist game on Oct. 29 at Pittsburgh. He added a three-point effort (2g, 1a) on Nov. 3 in Carolina’s 4-3 win against Toronto for his third consecutive three-or-more point game, and seventh multi-point game of the season. Staal has notched points in all but one of the Hurricanes 12 games this season, and carries a career-high seven-game points streak (10/20-11/3: 6g, 11a) into Thursday’s game against Toronto.

The Hurricanes have no injuries to report.

Against the Panthers
Saturday’s game marks the first of eight regular-season match ups between Southeast Division rivals Carolina and Florida. The teams met twice during the 2005 NHL Exhibition season, with each team scoring a shootout victory on the other team’s ice.

Florida and Carolina split their 2003-04 season series 2-2-2, with each team earning a pair of wins and a tie in its own home building. Erik Cole and Josef Vasiecek led the Canes with two goals and four assists apiece in the six games against the Panthers in 2003-04. Rod Brind’Amour led the team in goals against Florida with three, and also had two helpers. The Hurricanes post a 20-19-11-1 all-time record against Florida, with a 13-9-3-0 mark at home and a 7-10-8-1 record on the road.
