Tonight’s Game
The Southeast Division-leading Carolina Hurricanes return to the RBC Center tonight to host the Atlanta Thrashers (7 p.m., Hurricanes Radio Network) following a two-game road trip that saw the team extend its winning streak to a franchise-best nine games. The Hurricanes scored a 5-3 victory at Buffalo on Wednesday and a 1-0 win behind Martin Gerber’s second individual shutout of the season at Florida on Friday.

The Hurricanes’ current winning streak eclipsed the previous franchise high of seven games set March 16-29, 1985. Carolina has not lost in regulation since a 3-2 loss at the New York Islanders on Oct. 8. With 25 points in their first 15 regular-season games, the Hurricanes are off to their best start in franchise history, eclipsing the previous first-15-games record of 18 points in 1996-97. Carolina has now earned at least a point in each of its last 12 games, dating back to a 7-2 win against Washington at the RBC Center on Oct. 12.

Carolina Notes
After becoming to first player in NHL history to take two penalty shots in the same game on Nov. 9 at Buffalo, Hurricanes winger Erik Cole became just the second player in league history to be awarded penalty shots in consecutive games when he was hauled down on a first-period breakaway at Florida on Nov. 11. Cole’s accomplishment matched only that of Los Angeles Kings winger Esa Pirnes who was the first player in NHL history to take penalty shots in consecutive games when he did so on Oct. 10 and Oct. 12, 2003.

Against the Thrashers
Tonight's game marks the first of eight regular-season meetings in 2005-06 between the Hurricanes and the Thrashers, and the first of three during the month of November. Carolina and Atlanta met six times during the 2003-04 season, with the Hurricanes taking the series 4-1-0-1 (Atlanta: 2-3-0-1). Erik Cole led the Hurricanes with six points (2g, 4a) against Atlanta in 2003-04 while Ilya Kovalchuk led the Thrashers with nine points (3g, 6a).

Carolina leads the all-time regular-season series against Atlanta 18-3-4-1, and has fallen to the Thrashers just twice in 13 meetings at the RBC Center, going 10-2-1-0 on home ice and 8-1-3-1 at Philips Arena.
