Friday's Game
The Southeast Division-leading Carolina Hurricanes visit the Dallas Stars on Friday for the first of five consecutive road games against Pacific Division teams. On Saturday, the Hurricanes will take the ice at Phoenix's Glendale Arena to face the Coyotes in the second game of a back-to-back set. The Hurricanes are in the midst of a six-game road swing - the team's longest stretch of games away from Raleigh this season - that began with a 4-3 overtime win at Atlanta on Nov. 29. Carolina has won 13 of its last 18 games, dating back to a 4-0 win at Washington on Oct. 22. With 33 points in their first 24 regular-season games, the Hurricanes are off to their best start in franchise history, eclipsing the previous first-24-games record of 29 points, accomplished in 1986-87.

Carolina Notes
Carolina Hurricanes right wing Justin Williams is currently riding a career-best eight-game points streak (11/15-11/29: 5g, 6a). The Cobourg, Ont., native had a three-game goal-scoring streak (11/17-11/20: 4g, 1a) snapped when he was held goal-less on Nov. 22 against Ottawa. On Nov. 17 against the NY Rangers, Williams scored the Hurricanes' second shorthanded goal of 2005-06 and earned the game's third star en route to a 5-1 Canes victory. He scored again on Nov. 19 at Madison Square Garden and notched both of Carolina's goals in a 5-2 loss against Tampa Bay on Nov. 20. In the second period of the game against Tampa Bay, Williams was hauled down by Lightning defenseman Dan Boyle on a shorthanded breakaway. He was awarded a penalty shot and beat netminder John Grahame for his second shorthanded goal this season and second goal of the game. Williams' longest points streak prior to his current streak was seven games, set during the 2001-02 season with Philadelphia, when he had five goals and five assists between Jan. 8 and Jan. 18. Williams is in his second season with the Hurricanes after being acquired from Philadelphia in exchange for defenseman Danny Markov on Jan. 20, 2004. In 56 games with Carolina, Williams has amassed 14 goals and 22 assists (36 points) along with 52 penalty minutes.

Hurricanes center Eric Staal, who was named Offensive Player of the Month for October, currently leads the Hurricanes and ranked eighth in the league with 36 points through games of Nov. 30. Staal has notched points in all but four of the Hurricanes' 24 games this season, and had a career-high 10-game points streak (10/20-11/11: 7g, 12a) prior to the Hurricanes' Nov. 12 shutout loss against Atlanta. He ranked fourth in the league with 18 goals and tied for second in the league with two shorthanded goals through games of Nov. 30.
