Tonight's Game
The Southeast Division-leading Carolina Hurricanes visit the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim on Tuesday (10:30 p.m. ET, FSN South, Hurricanes Radio Network) the third of five consecutive road games against Pacific Division teams. The Hurricanes are in the midst of a six-game road swing - the team's longest stretch of games away from Raleigh this season - that began with a 4-3 overtime win at Atlanta on Nov. 29. Carolina suffered a 5-4 shootout loss at Dallas on Friday and fell 8-4 at Phoenix on Saturday.

Carolina has won 13 of its last 20 games, dating back to a 4-0 win at Washington on Oct. 22. With 34 points in their first 26 regular-season games, the Hurricanes are off to their best start in franchise history, eclipsing the previous first-26-games record of 32 points, accomplished in 1986-87 and 1996-97.

Milestone Watch

  • Captain Rod Brind'Amour is two penalty minutes shy of 900 for his NHL career
  • Defenseman Glen Wesley surpassed Jeff O'Neill (536) to become the Hurricanes' all-time games-played leader, Dec. 3 at Phoenix
  • Defenseman Mike Commodore played his 100th NHL game, Dec. 3 at Phoenix

Carolina Notes
The Hurricanes recalled right wing Chad LaRose on Dec. 4, after left wing Andrew Ladd suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee during Carolina's game at Phoenix on Dec. 3. Dr. Douglas Martini of Cary Orthopedic performed surgery on Ladd on Dec. 5, and the 19-year-old rookie is expected to miss six to eight weeks.

Hurricanes center Eric Staal, who was named Offensive Player of the Month for October, currently leads the Hurricanes and was ranked sixth in the league with 38 points through games of Dec. 4. Staal has notched points in all but five of the Hurricanes' 26 games this season, and had a career-high 10-game points streak (10/20-11/11: 7g, 12a) prior to the Hurricanes' Nov. 12 shutout loss against Atlanta. He ranked fourth in the league with 19 goals and tied for second in the league with two shorthanded goals through games of Dec. 4.

Carolina goaltenders Martin Gerber and Cam Ward became the first goaltending duo in NHL history to each notch assists in the same game on Dec. 3 at Phoenix. Ward earned the first assist on Staal's power-play goal in the second period and Gerber earned the second assist on Rod Brind'Amour's power-play goal in the third frame.
