Tonight's Game
The Southeast Division-leading Carolina Hurricanes wrap up a two-game road trip on Wednesday at the Corel Centre against the Ottawa Senators (7:30 p.m., FSN South, Hurricanes Radio Network). The Hurricanes fell 5-4 in overtime at Tampa Bay on Monday to kick off the two-game road swing. Carolina now posts a 9-5-3 road record this season. Wednesday's game also marks the first game of a back-to-back set for Carolina, as the Hurricanes will return to Raleigh on Wednesday to face Philadelphia (7 p.m., FSN South, Hurricanes Radio Network).

The Hurricanes currently post a 23-9-3 record, including wins in seven of the last nine games (12/6-12/26: 7-1-1), and hold the largest lead of any NHL division leader with an eight-point edge over Tampa Bay. With 49 points in their first 35 games, the Hurricanes are off to the best start in franchise history, eclipsing the previous first-35-games record of 44 points, accomplished in 1986-87. The team is currently on pace for a 115-point season.

Hurricanes center Eric Staal led the league lead in goals (26) and ranked tied for third in the league with 51 points through games of Dec. 26. Staal has notched points in 28 of the Hurricanes' 35 games this season. Through games of Dec. 26, he ranked tied for first in the league with three shorthanded goals and tied for fourth in the league with 10 power-play goals.

Against the Senators
Wednesday marks the final of four regular-season meetings between the Hurricanes and the Senators. The teams first met in Raleigh on Oct. 24, a 3-2 Hurricanes win. Carolina took the second match up by the same score on Nov. 15 at the Corel Centre. Ottawa won 5-3 in their return to Raleigh on Nov. 22. The Senators won the 2003-2004 season series against the Hurricanes 2-0-1-1 (Hurricanes: 1-2-1-0).
