Back-to-Back, Home-and-Home Series
The Southeast Division-leading Carolina Hurricanes wrap up a four-game home stand on Friday in the first game of a home-and-home series against the New York Islanders (7 p.m., Hurricanes Radio Network) that will conclude on Saturday at Nassau Coliseum (7 p.m., FSN South, Hurricanes Radio Network). The Hurricanes fell 4-3 in overtime to Philadelphia on Dec. 29 to open the home stand, but rebounded with a 5-3 win against Montreal on New Year's Eve and a 4-3 win against Atlanta on Jan. 4. The Hurricanes are now 16-4-1 in 21 home games this season.

The Hurricanes currently post a 25-10-4 record, have earned points in 11 of the last 13 games (12/6-1/4: 9-2-2) and hold the largest lead of any NHL division leader. With 54 points in their first 39 games, the Hurricanes are off to the best start in franchise history, eclipsing the previous first-39-games record of 46 points, accomplished in 1986-87.

The Carolina Hurricanes are 16-4-1 at home this season after scoring a 4-3 win against Atlanta on Jan. 4. Their regular-season record at the RBC Center is 99-83-37-7. Eric Staal currently leads the Hurricanes with 27 points (15g, 12a) in Carolina's 21 home games this season. The Hurricanes have outscored opponents 80-68 at home this season. The Hurricanes' power play is 24-for-153 (15.7%) at home while the penalty kill has been successful in 96 of 121 (79.3%) shorthanded situations.

The Carolina Hurricanes post a 9-6-3 road record after falling 6-2 to the Ottawa Senators at Corel Centre on Dec. 28. Against the Islanders
Friday marks the second of four match ups between the Hurricanes and Islanders this season, and the first game of a home-and-home back-to-back series between the teams. The teams will round out their four-game season series on Jan. 19 at the RBC Center. The Islanders took the teams' first meeting this season 3-2 on Oct. 8 at Nassau Coliseum.

The teams met four times during the 2003-04 season and the season series was tied 2-2-0. Islanders forward Trent Hunter led all scorers in the 2003-04 season series with five points (2g, 3a). Josef Vasicek led the Hurricanes with four points (1g, 3a).
