LAVIOLETTE TO SPEAK TO RALEIGH SPORTS CLUB
Hurricanes, Team USA coach to meet with group at Wednesday luncheon

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Jan. 9, 2006

RALEIGH, NC -- Carolina Hurricanes head coach Peter Laviolette will speak to the Raleigh Sports Club at the group's weekly luncheon this Wednesday at Highland United Methodist Church, 1901 Ridge Rd in Raleigh. The luncheon is open the media and the general public and begins at 11:45 a.m.

Laviolette is in his second season as head coach of the Hurricanes and has led the team to a 27-10-4 record in the first half of the 2005-06 season. On Aug. 16, 2005, he was named head coach for Team USA at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games to take place in Turin, Italy in February. The Franklin, Mass., native is in his fourth season at the helm of an NHL team, having spent two seasons with the New York Islanders prior to joining the Hurricanes, and posts a 124-104-29 all-time NHL coaching record.

The Raleigh Sports Club has grown to approximately 400 members and hosts weekly luncheon meetings where the group has the opportunity to listen to some of the most influential college and professional sporting figures while recognizing athletic and academic achievement on different levels. Membership to the Raleigh Sports Club is $50 and weekly lunches are $11 for members and $25 for non-members. The Carolina Hurricanes begin a three-game home stand against Central Division teams when the Detroit Red Wings visit the RBC Center on Tuesday (7 p.m., OLN, Hurricanes Radio Network). The Nashville Predators come to town for a Friday night match up (7 p.m., Hurricanes Radio Network) before the home stand's Sunday matinee finale against the St. Louis Blues (1:30 p.m., Hurricanes Radio Network).
