NC STATE HOSTS \'CANES CUP THIS WEEKEND

Defenseman Mike Commodore to drop ceremonial puck Saturday

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Jan. 13, 2006

RALEIGH, NC – This weekend at the RecZone, the North Carolina State ice hockey team will host the sixth annual ‘Canes Cup, a four-team round-robin tournament featuring Duke, Wake Forest, Georgetown and the Wolfpack. Hurricanes defenseman Mike Commodore will take part in a ceremonial puck drop prior to Saturday’s 5 p.m. match up between NC State and Wake Forest.

The tournament begins tonight when Duke and Wake Forest faceoff at 6 p.m. NC State will take on Georgetown at 9 p.m., immediately following the Duke-Wake Forest game. On Saturday, following the NC State-Wake Forest game, the Blue Devils and Hoyas will faceoff at 8 p.m. Sunday morning, the teams will complete the round robin with match ups between Wake Forest and Georgetown (9 a.m.) and NC State and Duke (noon).

The National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes provide logistical assistance and help offset some of the annual tournament’s hard costs, helping with ice time, compensating referees and providing the tournament’s trophy.

The RecZone is the practice facility of the Carolina Hurricanes and is located at 912 Hodges St. in Raleigh. For directions or more information about the RecZone, please visit www.reczone.net or call 919-754-0441.

The Carolina Hurricanes continue a three-game home stand on Friday against the Nashville Predators (7 p.m., Hurricanes Radio Network) before wrapping up the home stand with a Sunday matinee against the St. Louis Blues (1:30 p.m., Hurricanes Radio Network). Individual game tickets for all remaining Hurricanes home games can be purchased at the RBC Center box office, all TicketMaster outlets, by calling 919-834-4000 or via CarolinaHurricanes.com. For information on Hurricanes season-ticket packages and mini-season ticket plans, please call 1-866-NHL-CANES.
