HURRICANES ACTIVATE LADD, RECALL RICHMOND
Defenseman Aaron Ward placed on injured reserve

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Jan. 14, 2006

RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has activated left wing Andrew Ladd from injured reserve and recalled defenseman Danny Richmond from Lowell of the American Hockey League. Defenseman Aaron Ward was placed on injured reserve following his Jan. 11 surgery to repair a hernia.

Ladd, 20, suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee on Dec. 3 in the Hurricanes’ game at Phoenix and has missed the team’s last 17 games. The Maple Ridge, B.C., native had four goals in his first seven NHL games before suffering the knee injury.

Richmond, 21, has played in seven games with the Hurricanes this season. He was reassigned to Lowell on Nov. 24 before being recalled to Carolina on Dec. 20 on an emergency basis but did not dress for a game. The Chicago native has four goals, 11 assists (15 points) and 60 penalty minutes in 32 games this season for Lowell.

The Carolina Hurricanes wrap up a three-game home stand tomorrow with a Sunday matinee against the St. Louis Blues (1:30 p.m., Hurricanes Radio Network). Individual game tickets for all remaining Hurricanes home games, including Ron Francis Retirement Night on Jan. 28, can be purchased at the RBC Center box office, all TicketMaster outlets, by calling 919-834-4000 or via CarolinaHurricanes.com.
