FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Jan. 22, 2006

RALEIGH, NC –
Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that the Hurricanes have recalled forward Keith Aucoin from Lowell of the American Hockey League (AHL). Carolina assigned forward Niklas Nordgren to Lowell.

Aucoin, 27, currently ranks tied for fifth in the AHL in points (49) and assists (32). He leads the Lock Monsters in goals (17), assists (32), points (49) and power-play goals (5). Earlier this month, he was named to the Planet/USA All-Star team for the AHL’s 2006 All-Star Classic, to be held Feb. 1 in Winnipeg, Man. In 2004-05, the Waltham, Mass., native had 21 goals and 45 assists (66 points) in 72 regular-season games with the Providence Bruins, and led the team with 14 assists and 22 points in their 17-game postseason run. The Hurricanes signed Aucoin as a free agent on Aug. 4, 2005. A graduate of Norwich University, where he was a two-time ECAC-3 Player of the Year, Aucoin has tallied 253 points (87g, 166a) and 248 penalty minutes in 302 career AHL games with Lowell, Cincinnati and Providence.

Nordgren is in his first season with the Hurricanes and has notched four points (3g, 1a) in 38 games for Carolina. An eighth-round pick of the Hurricanes in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Nordgren played for Timra of the Swedish Elite League in 2004-05, tallying 36 points (19g, 17a) in 46 games.

The first-place Carolina Hurricanes return home to host the Montreal Canadiens on Monday night (7 p.m., FSN South, Hurricanes Radio Network), before again hitting road for games in Florida on Wednesday (7 p.m., FSN South, Hurricanes Radio Network) and Atlanta on Thursday (7 p.m., FSN South, Hurricanes Radio Network).
