HURRICANES RECALL MIKE ZIGOMANIS FROM LOWELL
Center Keith Aucoin reassigned to AHL affiliate

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Jan. 26, 2006

RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled center Mike Zigomanis from Lowell of the American Hockey League. Zigomanis will join the Hurricanes for their game tonight against the Atlanta Thrashers at Philips Arena (7 p.m., FSN South, Hurricanes Radio Network). Carolina reassigned center Keith Aucoin to Lowell to make room on the roster for Zigomanis.

Zigomanis, 25, is in his third NHL season with the Hurricanes and his fifth season of professional hockey. He played in 19 games with the Hurricanes this season before he was assigned to Lowell on Dec. 13. In 11 games with the Lock Monsters this season, the North York, Ont., native has notched six goals and added seven assists (13 points). A second-round selection (46th overall) of Carolina in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Zigomanis has seven points (3g, 4a) in 55 career NHL games. He is Lowell’s all-time leader in games played (265), goals (83), assists (121) and points (204).

The Carolina Hurricanes begin a home-and-home series with the Thrashers tonight in Atlanta, and will conclude the series on Saturday at the RBC Center (7 p.m., FSN South, Hurricanes Radio Network). The Hurricanes will honor former captain Ron Francis with a jersey retirement ceremony prior to Saturday’s game. Limited tickets are still available for Ron Francis Retirement Night. Individual game tickets for all remaining Hurricanes games at the RBC Center can be purchased at the RBC Center box office, all TicketMaster outlets, by calling 919-834-4000 or via CarolinaHurricanes.com.
