MATT CULLEN TO MISS 2-4 WEEKS WITH BROKEN JAW
Center was struck by a puck in the face in the third period of Carolina’s win in Atlanta

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Jan. 27, 2006

RALEIGH, NC –
Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that center Matt Cullen had his jaw immobilized today after suffering a fractured jaw in last night’s 5-1 Hurricanes win at Atlanta. Cullen is expected to miss two to four weeks of action.

Cullen, 29, scored the game-winning goal in Atlanta prior to leaving the game after a puck struck him in the face. The Virginia, Minn., native has eclipsed his career-high for goals a season this year with 20, and has 34 points (20g, 14a) in 50 games for Carolina. Cullen, who signed as a free agent with Carolina in August 2004, has 265 points (97g, 168a) in 563 career NHL games with Carolina, Florida and Anaheim.

The Carolina Hurricanes continue a home-and-home series with the Atlanta Thrashers on Saturday at the RBC Center (7 p.m., FSN South, Hurricanes Radio Network). The Hurricanes will honor former captain Ron Francis with a jersey retirement ceremony prior to Saturday’s game. Standing-room only tickets are the only tickets that remain for Ron Francis Retirement Night. Individual game tickets for all remaining Hurricanes games at the RBC Center can be purchased at the RBC Center box office, all TicketMaster outlets, by calling 919-834-4000 or via CarolinaHurricanes.com.
