Center Matt Cullen placed on injured reserve with fractured jaw

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Jan. 28, 2006

RALEIGH, NC –
Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that right wing Jesse Boulerice and left wing Niklas Nordgren have been recalled from the Lowell Lock Monsters of the American Hockey League. The team also placed center Matt Cullen on injured reserve after he suffered a fractured jaw in Carolina’s 5-1 win at Atlanta on Thursday. Cullen is expected to miss 2-4 weeks of action due to the injury.

Boulerice, 27, was reassigned to Lowell on Jan. 27 on what was to be a three-game conditioning stint. He earned two assists and recorded a plus-1 plus/minus rating in the Lock Monsters’ 8-2 win against Hartford on Friday night. Boulerice has played in 25 games with the Hurricanes this season and has recorded 51 penalty minutes. He is in his fourth NHL season and third with Carolina. In 152 career NHL games with Philadelphia and Carolina, he has recorded eight goals and two assists (10 points) along with 291 penalty minutes.

Nordgren, 26, was reassigned to Lowell on Jan. 22 and recorded three goals, two assists (5 points) and a plus-5 rating in three games with Lowell. The Ornskoldsvik, Sweden, native is in his first season of North American hockey and scored three goals and earned one assist (4 points) in 38 games with the Hurricanes this season.

The Carolina Hurricanes continue a home-and-home series with the Atlanta Thrashers on Saturday at the RBC Center (7 p.m., FSN South, Hurricanes Radio Network).
